is he a marine?
Is Bishop a colonial marine too, i know he is synthetic but is he also part of the marines or just a synthetic that tags along?

His aversion to fighting makes me think that he isn't enlisted. I think he might be a science officer, though.

Michael Bishop was an employee of Weyland-Yutani in the late 22nd century and bore a striking resemblance to Charles Bishop Weyland, founder of Weyland Industries. In 2179 Michael Bishop was employed as a synthetic component designer and engineer for the Weyland-Yutani corporation and was dispatched to Fiorina 161 to retrieve Ellen Ripley from the Fiorina 161 Correctional Unit.

The Aliens Colonial Marines Technical Manual lays out the organization of a typical marine regiment which includes at least one "synthetic" crew member to handle non-combat roles. It was said in the 2010 Aliens vs Predators game that androids made for combat is illegal although hard to say if we should take this seriously as it is outside the main canon of Alien(s). Makes sense though since if it were not the case you would think the Earth forces would be using combat androids all the time but the US government definitely does not. Could be a cost issue though but it would make sense for there to be an aversion toward arming androids like Bishop if he follows Asimov's laws (specifically inability to harm humans). So legally androids are discouraged to be used in combat but likely fill a non-combat role (doctor, science officer, etc). Of course then there are ones like Ash (spoiler alert
) but he was a clandestine agent for Weyland-Yutani (or whatever "the company" was called then).
