Why Must the Awesome Die Quick?!

Just raging because I watched Aliens last night, and my favorite character, Sergeant Apone is one of the first to die (or at least assumed to have died).
Makes me wish there was a chance that he could be in Aliens:Colonial Marines. We may find out exactly what happens to him, but I'm pretty sure that there won't be any substantial mention of him in the game, which makes my nerd rage even worse!:cen sored:

Well, I do understand that in order for the situation to be even more tense and serious, Apone would have to be out of the picture.

50 bucks we are seeing his dead corpse attached to one of those alien walls somewhere in the colony.

Another 50 bucks, well not 1000bucks for this one, we are going to know of Hudson's whereaboutsand fate in ACM.

Another 100.., well, not this time a bit less, let's say 10 only that they were placed together, in the same wall, hahah, there the two of them abducted in the same wall.

Now seriously, I hope we find Bishop's audio log/ audio report of the facehugger he was researching on when we revisit the iconic laboratory, but problem is..., ehem, shouldn't the laboratory have been vaporized too after the epic blast?, wait what the hell GB, HH still remains standing? ROFL

Anyway, what really pissed me off about Apone was that, while still being the only true one who actually knew something about military (being a military man himself), here came Cameron and killed him in the first encounter. I admit that was lame, but well It looks like Cameron had bigger plans for Gorman's character

In my opinion that's why Apone was removed from the film that fast, because Cameron had to expand Gorman's char in a clear attempt to portray his childish thoughts on american officers in Vietnam into his film. Just my two cents. If only Apone had refused to get HIS (the sergeant is daddy, don't forget) men unarmed in there and belay that order...

The idea behind Aliens was to create a bunch of characters we could instantly identify with and connect with only to have them snatched away. We spend long enough with the marines prior to the atmosphere processor to care about the characters. Then, when they're killed off we feel the loss and develop an emotional resonance with the movie and the rest of the characters making the movie all the more successfully brilliant.

I thought one of the strongest points in aliens was precisely the characters, of course they are brilliant in their own way, but I still think OP is right when he says, why Apone that fast?, we already had Wierzbowsky and Crowe for dying fast

What Cameron did with Gorman was shit imo, though I like that character just the same I may like the rest of the cast. I have old good memories about Burke's char mostly, and Hicks

Hicks' true badass colors come out because Apone is gone. So that is something good that came of it. I still wish Apone hadn't died that's all.

Ripley is to blame. She was the one who inquired as to what the pulse rifles fired and how delicate the heat exchangers were. Thats what made Gorman order the Marines disarmed. Then being she knew exactly what they were facing she never protested knowing they were walking into a shit storm. A fully armed squad of Marines and things go a little different. Crowe and Wierzbowski are in the fight(no ammo explosion) and Apone possibly doesnt get snatched up. Only Dietrich and Frost fates remain unchanged. Imagine the added firepower of Apone, Crowe and Wierzbowski in operations.

Not to mention the tactics Apone more than likely would have used in that fateful encounter. Not slamming Hicks or anything (his ideas were solid), but with the extra years and experience our dear Sergent would have.

But having a couple extra pulse rifles would have been good, but they gave up their mags when ordered to do so they not might have got ammo.

However, theres a good chance (more than likely definately would have happened) that had Apone lived, or to a lesser sense one of the others, Aliens would have been different. For example, Apone may have ordered the dropship earlier to pick them up, possibly saving Ferro and Spunkmeyer and the fully loaded Dropship. Or taken charge from Gorman (he would have had the rights), or even ordering the retreat once hostiles were confirmed. (Stupid Gorman)

However, Apone did a good job. Keeping his Marines in line and trying to follow some BS orders while in a firefight.

I dunno about that man, sometimes doing a good job and being a smart soldier is not following orders. Especially bullshit ones.

Also, what experience did he have that he has to wait for Gorman to give the order to pull out? "Say again all after incinerators". Poor soldiering.
