Aliens: Colonial Marines

While Ridley Scott puts the finishing touches on his latest alien movie, Prometheus, original Alien crew member Sigourney Weaver has expressed her desire to return to the franchise.

The actress – who recently starred as a scientist in James Cameron’s Avatar – recently confessed her desire to revisit the Ripley character once more, but also stated her reservations about the possibility.

Sigourney told Moviefone: "I would have liked to do one last story where we go back to the planet, where Ripley's history is resolved. But I do feel like her story is unfinished.

"I could definitely kick that alien's ass again. Ripley's a smart hero, it's the way she thinks, but just looking at the way the business is.”

Scott’s Prometheus was initially rumoured to be an Alien prequel, but since commencing production, it has emerged that the film is linked to the franchise but is not a continuation of the story.

I am not surprised Ms. Weaver would love to return as Ripley as she had a real respect for the franchise after the first film. However as fine an actress as Sigorney is and as fine as she has aged, I think Alien Resurrection really sank the franchise (film wise) and the role of Ripley in particular. Still if anyone could do that role, it would be Sigorney Weaver. Many actresses have tried to model their heroine on Weaver's take as Ripley but few I can recall have succeeded.

She probably just wants to redeem the character after Resurrection, and give the Aliens back their cred after the last two AvP "movies".

Ripley's journey ended at Fiorina. Resurrection doesn't exist

I actually really liked the alternate ending to Resurrection, but I agree with you.

Even though it mostly blew, it has a special place in my heart for being the only one that I got to see on the big screen, and it was worth paying for it just for the underwater scene...and Ron Perlman.

But yes, odious flick.

I would love to see her return for a fifth film. If they do they better do it soon. Yes Sigourney is AMAZING and talented but lets face it, shes not getting any younger.

that's when Ripley returns to earth right?, yeah the ending is nice to see, I mean what is left of earth and the war for resources coming to the alien franchise too. I saw It on the theaters too (the theatrical version of course), and was actually liking It until I got out of the cinema, stood still for a moment and said..., "what?!"

Definitely. The Alien franchise has sunk too low over the last two decades. It needs to revive itself. But if it doesn't end, it'll end up like Alien: Resurrection: unnecessary and damaging to the franchise. Then AVP... ew.

Alien needs to end on a strong note and stay there.
