It's been said somewhere around (not by GB or rebellion, of course) that they usually do them like that just for balance reasons (and I just wonder, what those reasons could be? LOL). Now let me translate that phrase and what they are truly telling us (they are shy and need help you know, so let's give'em a hand here):
"We are so so so so so retarded, and so are the dudes owning the franchise rights, that we (following their commands) sacrifice which is one the most important factors iconic to these
towering monsters, factor that would undoubtedly increase their creepiness and the overall experience of terror (for the entire game and Its atmosphere) till unexpected limits just in the name of the "balance" and the seek of a casual audience, so here is why we make tiny toons trying to look like aliens that make you laugh that much. Besides, we are lazy too, so hey people give us a brake and accept the shit you are given"
In all seriousness now, I was once talking in the Sega forum with a guy that seemed to be related to fox and Sega about this and was kind enough to engage the conversation, and you wouldn't believe what his explanation was, but trust me, what they think is almost 65% well represented in the paragraph above. Anyway I'm trying to find that specific topic at the sega forums, but you have to understand It was a loong long time ago as this is being pretty hard, plus I'm not usually a patient man myself.
More, I mean a looot a lot more serious was what happened to me and a trilion others when we criticized avp2010 at some very famous
avp site out there, a site that decided to trade a lot of good people just for some Rebellion's dummy called S.Y.L., tool that these funny guys at Rebellion sent over there with the mere goal of literally silence all those critic voices against an aberration of a game like that (developers criticizing the people, you the customer, the one who pays for his product..., unbelievable isn't It? xD). You can imagine what my direct questions to him were (all of them not even about the game and Its technical problems, just about why the aliens were that small and why they go on their four all the time), and the lol silence I got in response (and the other trilion HOT questions, plus the incredible ammount of people that was banned just for criticizing Rebellion over there LOL). Well, these things happen when you just seek the truth above everything else. I remember having quite a long conversation with this dude before he decided to go silent. It was worth the laugh at least. Still, I'm afraid they might have been right about a thing when they, after all the fierce (and well deserved) criticism they got said: "Let's wait and see what GB can deliver". You know what now?, they were right, even their dwarf trolololalien warrior with kilometric tail looks better than the GB warrior, just look and compare...

Anderson's mediocrity is not in the need of any excuse. His mind is perfectly reflected in those bad, absurd, patheitc and affected arcade movies of his. He is just what you see in him, nothing, he's completely empty of eveything. Hell even those Strause dudes managed to make a decent Predator3 movie, that is
avp: requiem. Lord what was I thinkin' lol.
I think event horizon is the only semi-decent movie of his. It was kind of entertaining at least, but It's been a whileeeeee a while since then already.
