Well on the issue of
AvP, it only works as a side genre of the two. The video games and comics where great and of course FOX being a movie studio, was going to eventually bring the idea to the big screen. Yet such ideas rarely become good when translated to film as can be seen in the likes of Godzilla vs King Kong or Freddy vs Jason. Yet the film could have been done right if they had good costume design, better writing, better screenplay and maybe even space marines instead of hapless mercs and in a complex on another planet, than in a pyramid in the Antartic. Then again probably not . . .
Anywho, I am glad Ridley Scott has enough horse sense to realise where many of the sequels failed. Yet he has had some of his own stinkers ('Kingdom of Heaven' anyone?), yet all and all he is an excellent director. Not to mention he was the man who did the original, which is still actually my favorite of the films, despite the the awesomness that was Cameron's 'Aliens'. Yet I am disappointed with Fox who are yet again meddling with a film with great potential (ala "Alien 3"). They should not even bother making it if they are not going to do it right.
